And that memorial to the workers sounds just lovely.

I have a pic of Richard I from almost the exact same angle *g*. One of my dreams is to take an entire summer and holiday in England with my husband, rent a car, tour small villages, castles, historical places, and stay in bed & breakfasts.

Your wealth of knowledge regarding history has inspired me as a historical fiction writer.Rita Gerlachhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04348571506318182955noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24348391.post-16920016744586419122008-06-07T20:18:00.000+00:002008-06-07T20:18:00.000+00:00What a wonderful tour. Thanks for sharing it.

Prince Philip has his own dressing area in the same room but in a different part and enjoys a glass of single malt whiskey at the same time!

That probably a good preparation to survive a boring ol' parliament session. :)

This is apparently because when the Lords were in debate and ladies' skirts began to rise in the post Edwardian era, the flash of an ankle from those in the viewing gallery was extremely distracting to chaps trying to be good orators.

Lol, men are so easily distracted. ;)Gabriele Campbellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17205770868139083575noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24348391.post-69831813437491861872008-06-06T22:45:00.000+00:002008-06-06T22:45:00.000+00:00Fascinating post! My three useless bits of information (which you probably already know) are that our Old Parliament House's oldest bit is over the Speaker's chair (I think in the Senate) and is a segment of a beam from Westminster and a segment of the Magna Carta is still law in the Australian Capital Territory.

I have an edition of some of the Australasian bits of those dispatches you mention, too.

Altogether, your post is surprisingly closely linked to where I live :).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
