The Greatest Knight hits the charts!

Dropping by on the run.
Even though this is my blog and I'm an author for a living, I'm not rampantly into the self-promotion thing. However, I'm too pleased to sit on this at the moment. I have heard that The Greatest Knight has entered The Bookseller's Heatseeker chart. From last week's number nineteen, it has jumped to number 2. Needless to say I'm delighted and doing the happy dance!

I'm very excited for you! It's a great book and well-deserves the attention. It's unfortunate that I cannot find any of your books here in St. Louis at Borders Books or Barnes & Noble (our two "big" book stores). I always buy your books from Amazon.com. I don't mind buying online, but I would love to be able to pop into my local bookstore and get your books. I wonder why they don't carry them in stock? Maybe your high placement on the charts will convince them they need to stock all your work!

That's great...and no more than the book deserves. It was a very enjoyable read!

That is *great* news.

Thanks KC, Marg, Lofthaena and Gillian. I am keeping my feet on the ground. The Heatseekers list is only for the UK and it's a chart of what's up and coming and not the mighty topsellers. Hopefully a novel rises through the Heatseekers and goes on to climb the main chart. However, getting into the Heatseekers is an indication of pretty good initial sales.
KC, re the USA. I don't have a USA mainstream publisher at the moment, so my novels are available online but not in the bookstores. My agents is working on it, but it is a very tough market to break into. One USA editor, who shall remain nameless, has had The Greatest Knight on her desk for the best part of 9 months and has not replied to queries from my agent, nor her UK counterparts in the same publishing house...

Lofthaena - your comment made me chuckle. I have a friend who was so caught up in Sharon Kay Penman's Here Be Dragons that she nearly missed her own wedding - truly!

Way to go girl!

Am loving the GK so far, and quite understand why William is your hero. He's seriously gorgeous!

Fingers crossed that next week's Bookseller shows you in the chart proper!

(After all, I bought my copy after the Heatseekers list was announced...)

Delighted to hear it! Looks as if this will be your Big Breakthrough. And you have strong novels to follow it. I'm looking forward to The Scarlet Lion and the John Marshal novel.

Julian,
many thanks for dropping by. I'm delighted you enjoyed The Greatest Knight. William Marshal and the Marshal family have definitely taken over my life since encountering them! You are not the only male reader of The Greatest Knight, although the only one to have posted to my blog piece. I have received a lot of e-mails and feedback from guys of various ages who all seem to have enjoyed the novel thus far.
The second book; The Scarlet Lion will go as far as 1219, so the disaster to the male line won't show up in that novel. Currently I'm working on the 'prequel' in writing John Marshal's story. I may well do a 4th Marshal novel, but it will probably concentrate on the daughters. However, I do think it fascinating about William's sons. I suspect much foul play. Richard was openly murdered. Gilbert Walter and Ancel went down fast and none of them had children. In the Histoire de Guillaume le Mareschal, I wonder if there is a premonition of this when the dying William says of his daughters: 'If all of them hold together, so it please God, it could well be that great good could come of it.'

Elizabeth Chadwick writes magical tales about Knights not always in shining armour but nevertheless wonderful stories of old - should be top of all kinds of novels.

I agree with KC's post; I wish you were available in the States. I have read all your books and they have your autograph in them from some book plates that you mailed to me several years ago. I would be pleased to receive some more. Keep pushing these publishers in the US!

Congrats on the heatseekers placing. In a quieter week, the novel would have cracked the top overall Top 50. The book did get into WH Smiths top 50 (which is based on the national and heatseekers charts) meaning that they would have put an extra order in thus leading to extra sales!

Thanks for dropping by Rob and for that information. Dare I ask if you work in the book industry somewhere? The Greatest Knight came out in World Cup Week (so a lot of attention was elsewhere I think!) It has continued to sell at a steady rate throughout July and August. Never headline busting, but quietly getting on with it and upping the figures - which I'm pleased about. I'd like people to know about William Marshal. He deserves to be remembered more than he is :-)

Well having read all your books with regard to the early middle ages from the Wild Hunt onward i just gotta say that you are one hell of a writer, and coming from and living in Wales its always nice to see that we get thrown in the mix & not in the negitive sense all the time either.
You bring a hard but wonderful period back to life in so many ways, & theres no skimping on the detail.
I hope that you will cover the later crusades with the same detail & style as you did in Falcons.
Looking forward to William Marshals life but have not yet tracked down a copy of "The Greatest Knight"
Keep going the way you are because we need the escape that you give us
